Detailed Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Advancement Reporting will lead and oversee the development, creation, and service of all reports and data deliverables to support RIT's Division of University Advancement. This role includes the design and building of technical processes to address business issues, overseeing the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics. To meet these objectives, the Assistant Director will be the primary point of service for the front-end of our donor management system, in addition to having responsibility for the maintenance of data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for understanding industry trends in fundraising analytics and applying those theories to RIT specific data in order to present data in an intuitive and action oriented fashion to drive results. He/she will interact with a cross functional work team to provide customer support to RIT's Division of University Advancement, and all users of RIT's donor management system, providing excellent customer support to all system stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Ownership of all reports and supporting processes for RIT's central donor management system. This includes self-service reports generated from front-end web interface, dynamic Excel reports, and Tableau dashboards.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of Advancement and University Campaign reporting including report development, accuracy and maintenance and archival. Focus will be on report and dashboard creation, oversight of division metrics, and implementation of process enhancements.
  • Interact with the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement, the Executive Director of University Campaigns, and campaign partners in Sponsored Research and Government and Community Relations in order to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reports and meet the needs of university leadership.
  • Partner with senior management, business teams, end users, and technical team to develop functional and technical specifications, assess business processes, and produce necessary deliverables consistent with Design Thinking and industry best practices.
  • Manage incoming reporting and data request tickets, which cover new reports, modifications, and various ad hoc business needs.
  • Engage divisional and university partners across multiple initiatives and create prioritized, actionable recommendations. Define and enhance existing data systems to capitalize on availability for emerging analytics-based tactics.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Advancement Systems, Data and Analytics to manage reporting-related projects through a coordinated project lifecycle from analysis to implementation, focusing on data driven fundraising efforts, process efficiencies, and business intelligence best practices.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Systems team in identifying leverage point solutions and pursuing scale opportunities within the broad scope of our technical ecosystems.
  • Lead discussions with business intelligence, reporting, and other related vendors to develop technical strategies and provide users with a tool set based on best practices in the industry
  • Partner with internal and external project/product managers to define measurement and analytical recommendations for projects and products.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of results through interaction with end users to understand and define requirements and adherence to governance standards and practices. Apply project management skills to plan, manage scope and proactively identify and resolve issues.



Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, or other related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a reporting and data-centric role involving creation and ownership of full reporting life cycle, ideally in a fundraising environment.
  • 5+ years of experience using SQL, Visual Basic, JavaScript, and ASP .Net (or similar) to process and summarize data.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills are required to use operation data to modify strategy and course of action
  • Demonstrable experience producing interactive reporting tools using a myriad of data sources to meet end customer needs.
  • Must have experience with data visualization, reporting and business intelligence tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau, Excel + VBA, and other related technologies
  • Must have experience with relational database programming, including knowledge of PL/SQL, Oracle, and other related technologies
  • Expert level proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), ideally in the production of interactive and automated data reports and/or tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, and one or more donor database systems
  • Must have some experience with defining and providing user training
  • Effective leadership and management skills
Preferred Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Ellucian Advance system and/or other higher education CRM applications and donor management systems
  • Experience with SQL, Visual Basic, Python, ASP .Net, JavaScript, and relevant programming languages strongly preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines requested by a diverse group of persons with emphasis on a high level quality of customer service
  • Strong relationship building and consulting skills
  • Experience servicing and supporting a broad client base is ideal
