Position Summary
Full-time position under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) available on or after July 18, 2022 in University Advancement.

Reporting to the Vice President of University Advancement, the Director is responsible for over management of the alumni & family engagement efforts including programming, fiscal planning, and serving as the staff liaison for the Alumni Association. The overall goal is to build and strengthen the University's pipeline of alumni, friends, donors, and friends.

The Director of Engagement will provide inspirational leadership for a developing alumni relations and family engagement program to help meet the goals of the University, which include elevating visibility, connectivity, and engagement, along with bolstering student mentorship and donor engagement.

To be successful, the Director will activate relationships with alumni, families, faculty, staff, students and the community across the University including the Career and Professional Development Center, Warrior Cross-Cultural Center, each of the four academic college deans, Student Leadership and Programs and various other units, divisions, and programs. The Director will establish connections to all areas of the college and increase and document engagement.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide vision, leadership, oversight and implementation of a comprehensive engagement strategy to enhance and build relationships with Stan State Alumni, family members and community supporters.
  • Foster connections between the University, Alumni Council, alumni, families and the community resulting in a growth in engagement through event participation, Council membership, volunteer participation, giving and social media activity.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and serve as the primary point of contact for alumni and family engagement.
  • Create opportunities for interaction among University staff, alumni, and families by planning and supporting virtual and non-virtual events that create inclusive engagement opportunities.
  • Engage alumni and families in the life of the University through consistent messaging using social media, electronic and print communications.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for the Stan State Alumni Council. Provide staff support and leadership for the Council and its committees, identifies, solicits and onboards new council members.
  • Support and maintain the synergy with Career Development by participating in recruiting events (e.g. Career Fairs), mentorship programming and career development programming.
  • Develop and maintain relations with a wide variety of campus partners, alumni and community members, potential donors, volunteers and vendors.
  • Coordinate Alumni & Family Engagement budget by monitoring expenses and working collaboratively with the Operations teams.
  • Support the overall long-term planning and evaluation for alumni engagement programs, including working collaboratively to identify new opportunities and refresh program strategies.
  • Responsible for tracking and regular measurement and evaluation of alumni and family engagement, programs and services including developing reports for presentation to campus partners and volunteer leadership.
  • Use judgement in the development of policies and procedures related to issues frequently not covered by existing policies and procedure. Precedents and policies to guide development may be available for reference.
  • Represent the Division by participating in committees related to university initiatives and priorities as designated by the Vice President of University Advancement.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

    Experience:
  • 5-7 years professional experience with a higher education or nonprofit institution.
  • 2-4 years experience working with an alumni, constituent, or volunteer engagement program
  • 1-3 years experience supervising teams of individuals.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience leading an Alumni Relations program.
  • Progressive management of people in front-facing roles with proven results establishing and maintaining relationships.
  • Professional experience as a seasoned performance-driven leader in a higher education or nonprofit institution.
  • Advanced degree in relevant field and/or CFRE certification.
  • Working knowledge of major gift, planned giving strategies and donor stewardship.
  • Proficient in Raisers Edge NXT.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of management and administrative expertise related to the development and implementation of appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling and coordination in a team environment to meet changing organizational objectives.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of initiating, establishing, and fostering communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere.

  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
