Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

Job Description Summary:
The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is responsible for supporting the growth of resources for the University by researching, identifying, securing, developing, stewarding and reporting on institutional philanthropic funding opportunities. The Director promotes and fosters strategic relationships with corporations, foundations, and community organizations while seeking new funds in support of the Universities institutional and priorities, with demonstrated experience working with health-related initiatives at the university level. Reporting to the university's Associate Vice President of University Advancement and Campaign Director, the incumbent will be a mission-driven individual who will staff campus leadership as it engages with the leadership of corporations and private foundations; the incumbent will also develop and maintain strong professional relationships with corporate and foundation prospects. The incumbent will maintain a special emphasis on local, regional, and national private foundations relating to health care.

Specific Duties:
  • Oversee a high-functioning corporation and foundation relations program. Develop and set in motion a highly strategic and effective corporate engagement program, and develop and steward relationships with Inland Southern California that have the potential of leading to philanthropic investment. Evaluate foundation opportunities, collaborate with campus partners and write proposals. Manage a portfolio of foundation prospects, including proposal writing and grant stewardship. In collaboration with the Associate Vice President, Vice President, President and University leadership, research and identify funders at the corporate and foundation level to support the emerging College of Health and Community Well-Being.
  • Serve as the lead business development and relationship manager for a portfolio of top University strategic partners and prospects.
  • Play an active role in helping to research, qualify, contact and cultivate new, mutually-beneficial relationships throughout Inland Southern California and broader region and in areas where alumni are located. Develop partnerships of mutual benefit with organizations and the University that generate significant and transformational funding for the University, with specific focus on the emerging health related initiatives.
  • Maintain strategic oversight of and responsibility for all program elements and supervise the Associate Director, Institutional Philanthropy and Strategic Initiatives.
  • The incumbent will develop and manage a stewardship program for corporate and private foundations. The incumbent will create, maintain, and adhere to a grant calendar that will include deadlines for proposals, reports, thank-you letters, and other correspondence. The incumbent will arrange and manage campus visits and stewardship events for foundation staff and/or representatives.
  • Maintain currency on best practices and trends in corporate partnerships, foundation giving, and community engagement.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education or equivalent public sector work, including a successful track record in fundraising from foundations and experience in corporate or industry setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategies relating to University initiatives including health related initiatives; identifying and qualifying new institutional prospects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve departmental goals and to provide excellent service to internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to be an ambassador of the University, its mission and University Advancement.
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal and organizational skills; have strong attention to detail; be goal and results-oriented; self-motivated; and possess the ability to make independent decisions. The incumbent must be a collaborative and team-oriented individual; demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with a wide range of relationships and situations; possess the ability to maintain enthusiasm for hard work, changing priorities, and multiple deadlines; and have the ability to interact well with a diverse community of faculty, students, and constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree.
  • Health care fundraising experience.
