Job Description:
This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of building equity in healthcare. The Chicago School's expansion into integrated health through the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). The Director of Institutional Giving will be a part of a renowned institution's growth in Chicago with impact on the quality of and access to healthcare, and economic development in the city and beyond.

The position is charged with identifying trends in giving, generating new ideas for engagement, and forming close relationships with local, regional, and select national funders . The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, adept at networking and forming relationships, and exude a positive and upbeat demeanor. The individual must be committed to the mission of the University and the COM, have excellent communications skills, and demonstrate effective leadership internally and with the greater Chicago community. The Director of Institutional Giving will be a person of integrity, character, and sound judgment and, above all, dedicated to the mission and values of The Chicago School.

The Director will have demonstrated success in, and a commitment to creating and promoting a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace environment. This person will have experience managing in large organizations and be able to powerfully deliver pertinent fundraising messages to members of the University, potential partners, funders and in the Chicago surrounding communities. The candidate will be successful in empowering constituents to give, while engendering new ideas to raise funds for the University's COM. The Director will tell stories in a compelling manner and exhibit ingenuity when it comes to raising funds in all areas with an emphasis on individual major gifts.
The Director of Institutional Giving works with the Associate Vice President, Institutional Advancement, along with The Chicago School leadership and senior campaign volunteers, to set major-gift and program sustainability goals and priorities to further sustainability as part of launching the new COM initiative.

The Director of Institutional Giving sits on the AVP's team, working collaboratively to advance the launch of the COM along with the goals of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations. Additionally, this individual serves as lead, coach, advisor and strategist with leadership, faculty and staff on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure and stewardship of major gift, corporate and foundation donors, and functions as an essential partner in the success of launch of the COM.

The duration of this position is expected to be one year from the date of hire. This is a hybrid role. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The environment is occasionally fast-paced and deadline-driven. Work hours will vary depending on proposal and other institutional deadlines. Workweeks may exceed the standard 37.5 hours.

Essential Duties
Leadership

Engage with the President, Associate Vice President, Executive team, Founding COM Dean, Faculty, Advancement staff and volunteers to develop and strengthen individual relationships and involvement with The Chicago School in meeting its goals and mission.

Oversee a comprehensive major gift, corporate and foundation donor program.

Develop strategies designed to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, corporations and foundations capable of giving a gift of $100,000 or more for COM priorities.

Build goals for outright and deferred gifts in conjunction with the executive team, including annual goals, multi-year goals, planned giving program goals and comprehensive campaign goals.

Prepare annual short-range plans and forecasts for review.

Partner with prospect research and management to develop processes, procedures and analytics to ensure that a strong pipeline of potential support is identified and maintained.

In conjunction with Donor Relations and Stewardship, help create and execute plans for appropriate recognition of donors.

Create and cultivate a work environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equity and inclusion.

Review monthly, quarterly and annual reports that include measurable targets for donations that demonstrate productivity related to meetings, stewardship activity, solicitations made, new commitments and dollars raised within the contract period.

Ensure timely completion of proposals, pledge commitment documents, documentation of individual prospect strategies, stewardship plans and qualification efforts.

Program Management

Oversee the creation and implementation of outreach strategies using demographics, donor behavior, and other considerations reflecting best practices to achieve required COM funding levels of $50,000,000 and above.

Work in partnership with donor relations and stewardship to build on the existing efforts to promote the COM Leadership Circle in a way that gives the group a prominent presence during the public phase of the campaign.

Coordinate with the Chief of Business Operations to manage estate-related documents and any compliance issues.

Portfolio Management

Manage a portfolio of individuals, corporations and foundations who are qualified prospects.

Model best practices by developing strategies for building successful relationships between prospects and The Chicago School with a goal of soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000 and above. This includes corresponding with and meeting prospects, donors and their advisors.

Travel as appropriate to fulfill duties and maintain and submit timely reports on meetings with prospects and donors.

Facilitate productive relationships between donors, senior administrators, and other staff to solicit individuals for high-level gifts in support of fundraising priorities, as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Minimum of seven years of fundraising or equivalent experience, demonstrated ability to manage relationships and successfully solicit six and seven-figure gifts or the equivalent

Prior experience and demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and tasks
Proficiency in MS Office Suite

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to plan, create and market a strategic donor program

Possession of the highest ethical standards, an entrepreneurial spirit and creativity

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

Effectively set priorities, and analyze and creatively solve problems

Ability to keep abreast of updates and changes within the field

Ability to work well with high level volunteers, corporate and foundation leaders

Passion for education, mental health, medicine, and social equity

Compensation & Benefits
This opportunity is budgeted at $135,000 - $150,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
