Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, Principal Gifts & Campaign, the Principal Gifts Associate provides support for the Principal Gifts & Campaign department fundraising goals and activities.

This is an early career fundraising position focused on the strategic identification, qualification, and cultivation of current donors and highly rated non-donors with a goal of building and maintaining a new pipeline of prospects. Guided by a "donor centered" approach, the incumbent will strategically work to qualify, cultivate, and secure gifts, for the university from high-net worth individuals. The incumbent will be a strategic member of the Principal Gifts & Campaign team, leading meetings, and projects, coordinating high-profile campus visits for principal gift donors/prospects, and provide support for the ED for Principal Gifts & Campaign with day-to-day strategic initiatives.

The incumbent is an excellent listener, with exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative work style. As such, the incumbent possesses the skills and ability to draft correspondence, utilize social media, make phone calls, and employs all communication channels to personally conduct proactive outreach to prospects.

FLSA: Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation according to the Fair Labor Standards Act).

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,022 - $ 9,083 per month

Hiring Range: $5,022 - $ 9,083 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

Salary Grade/Range: 3

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Must be available to work evenings and weekends and on-call responsibilities as needed.

Sacramento State embarked upon its first comprehensive campaign, On the Rise: A Campaign for Sacramento State, to transform the University, create new possibilities, and elevate our students and the region to a new level of excellence. With a goal to raise $225M by 2023, Principal Gifts and Campaign is responsible for the day-to-day management and support of the campaign and advocates for the University's vision through securing transformative philanthropic support.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

  5. Ability to work with all levels of stakeholders including board members, executive leadership, deans, faculty, alumni, students, and donors across the generational mix, etc.
  6. Must embrace a donor centric, mission driven engagement and philanthropic strategy.
  7. Ability to successfully manage the philanthropic relationship with a donor/prospect on behalf of the University.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in meeting and event planning, including coordinating teams/committees, organizational development, decision-making, contracts, and policy implementation.
  9. Ability to articulate the University's fundraising goals to internal and external constituents.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with a diverse constituency, both internal and external to the University.
  11. Strong organizational and time management skills, focused, and goal oriented.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  13. Ability to work effectively in a large, complex, and dynamic organization.

Work Schedule Requirements:
  1. Ability to work evening and weekend on-call responsibilities as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  1. At least two years of proven experience in fundraising or in a higher educational setting with a working familiarity with CASE or other professional development organization.
  2. Knowledge of fundraising operations including experience using fundraising software/systems
