Job Description

Reporting to the Director of the Wharton Fund, as the Senior Associate Director you will be responsible for:
  • Strategy, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for the Wharton School's graduate alumni who are giving or have the potential to give leadership gifts at the upper end of the Benjamin Franklin Society level to the Wharton Fund.
  • Ensuring a high-touch experience for those giving 5+ figures.
  • Managing between 300 and 350 donors and will be expected to do 150 visits with a keen eye on moving donors to major gifts.
  • Performing and advocating for high-touch stewardship, including events and fund activity reports.
  • Frequent travel to cities with a large population of Benjamin Franklin donors to visit prospects.
  • Collaborating with other fundraisers in the department and across the university in the overall relationship building of alumni with the School.
  • Establishing and meeting mutually agreed-upon annual goals for Wharton Fund cash and participation.

Key requirements for this position:
  • Manage a 350 donor portfolio of donors and prospects that have or could demonstrate support to The Wharton School at the $10,000+ range.
  • Create and implement stewardship plans for donors, both one- on-one levels as well as macro levels.
  • Personally solicit Wharton Fund prospects at the Benjamin Franklin Society level, as well as soliciting 150+ prospects/donors.
  • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects and work with Wharton Development colleagues to maximize the long-term impact.
  • Remote work capability.
  • Travel and some evening/weekend work required, including blocks of time for major events such as Reunion Weekends. Also required is the ability to attend, participate, facilitate or lead on-campus and off-campus events/activities outside of normal business hours, both on the Philadelphia campus and in regional markets.

  • A Bachelor's Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in fundraising/gift solicitation, preferably in higher education
  • Experience managing volunteers preferred
  • Ability to function with a high degree of independence with assigned group of prospects, yet interact collaboratively with colleagues, participating in and contributing to total team effort
  • Results driven with high motivation to work with a sophisticated donor population.
  • Experience in serving volunteer organizations with a professional, customer service oriented attitude and heightened diplomacy skills.
  • Confidence and maturity to work with senior business alumni, including knowledge of international cultures.
  • Familiarity with database manipulation and other computer software.
