DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of an area administrator, plan, organize, coordinate, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operations of a variety of student services programs and areas, serving as a liaison for students. Performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support for assigned student services program or location. Initiates, develops and maintains strong relationships with students to ensure student access and success within specific program guidelines. Actively collaborates with the director, external educational staff, and internal program staff to identify and use innovative and engaging practices to maximize student success especially for students whose backgrounds have not prepared them for college readiness. Demonstrates leadership to encourage and model a holistic approach to programming and student support.

This job class is a classified administrator position and requires strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Promotes a positive atmosphere and facilitates cooperation and collaboration as a representative of the assigned program in interactions with the campus community and outside agencies and schools.
This position's focus will be on Kindergarten Readiness, including oversight of the District's assessment instrument, validation studies, software troubleshooting, school and parent tutorials, and regional and local data reporting. This position will also assist in other areas such as K-16 Collaborative grant, GRAD Partnership grant, The Alliance Project, New Market Tax Credits, Community Leadership Center Operations, and general Shasta College operations.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 20 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.

SUPERVISOR: Vice President of Student Services or designee

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Essential Functions:

  • Provides guidance for assigned program or location, implementing specific activities and services to promote post-secondary enrollment, student success, and follow up and retention interventions
  • Assists students in understanding and navigating academic and college systems, including admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, course registration, and college support programs
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environments
  • May oversee hiring, onboarding, supervision, and evaluation of classified staff and student workers
  • Monitors student academic performance and engagement, providing guidance and referrals to tutoring and available resources as needed
  • Identifies and actively recruits qualified students, assisting students and parents with application paperwork, and making recommendations for final selection into assigned program
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of student program-related records and contacts; follow proper paperwork and record keeping processes and adhere to all program deadlines
  • Assists in preparing announcements, newsletters, and other forms of communication regarding program-related events, activities, and initiatives.
  • Coordinates events and services related to high school completion and transition to post-secondary education
  • Plans, coordinates, and participates in field trips and campus tours
  • In collaboration with appropriate manager/supervisor, gathers, reviews, and maintains student success data, makes recommendations for implementing initiatives to promote student success, and identifies tools including technology to track support services and outcomes
  • Promotes post-secondary access by involvement in various community and public school forums, boards, and committees
  • Research and consult with college and community support services and organizations to identify available resources and address student needs
  • Understands and implements all processes necessary for achieving grant and funding objectives where applicable
  • Works collaboratively with college and community educators on referrals and student records
  • Coordinates and leads individual meetings and/or small group workshops for students, and community members on topics related to access to post-secondary education
Knowledge of:
  • The K-12 California public educational system as well as community college, UC, CSU, and private postsecondary systems
  • General academic and financial assistance procedures
  • Federal, state, and district regulations and laws regarding assigned program goals and objectives, California Education Code, Title 5, and the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of K-12 and community college students
  • Specialized technical and administrative principles, practices, and procedures of the assigned programs
  • Computer and applicable software programs including database, spreadsheet, and word processing software
  • Support service needs and resources for students from backgrounds that have not prepared them for college readiness
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary for oral and written professional communication
  • Public speaking and basic marketing
Ability to:
  • Engage, motivate and empower others, particularly students whose backgrounds have not prepared them for postsecondary educational settings
  • Relate well and work effectively in a collaborative manner with all segments of the K-12 and college community
  • Promote inclusion and contributions of individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Conduct program activities in alignment with funding objectives and budget
  • Plan, organize, and complete assignments with limited supervision, while meeting deadlines and specific program goals and objectives
  • Read, understand, analyze, and apply complex written materials
  • Research, compile, evaluate, and verify a variety of data and information
  • Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of assigned program
  • Communicate effectively in written correspondence and verbal presentations
  • Exercise sound judgment in the security of confidential information and the determination of need for student referrals to professional and community services


Experience/Education
Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, social science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in building positive relationships, motivating and supporting low income and potential first generation students
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with school and community personnel
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Experience Preferred:
  • Significant experience in coordinating and implementing programs designed to assist students in post-secondary education
  • Experience managing a caseload of students, working with individuals as well as groups

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 6 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
