DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Project Coordinator – Apprenticeship Programs performs a variety of complex and highly responsible program development, administrative and support activities for the California Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI) Apprenticeship Programs . The CAI program supports workforce development across diverse sectors including a new generation of logging and forest workers critical to the State's plans for forest health management throughout the Far North region. Incumbents in this position pursue and manage grants to develop and support new and existing apprenticeships. The Project Coordinator partners with industry to develop and facilitate apprenticeship programs. The Project Coordinator performs budgetary, organizational, supervisory, problem solving, and decision-making tasks under the direction of the Senior Project Coordinator. Employees in this position receive minimal supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This is an administrative, overtime exempt position.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 30 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.

SUPERVISOR: Associate Vice President of Economic & Workforce Development or designee

This is a Classified Administrator position with a default CalPERS retirement.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Essential Functions:

  • Administers the day-to-day activities and operations of CAI Apprenticeship Programs development, determines apprenticeship eligibility requirements, and establishes appropriate guidelines.
  • Establishes and manages the Far North Registered Apprenticeship Office with the development of a new Registered Apprenticeship Program in Logging & Forest Workers.
  • Develops and adds new apprenticeship programs to be administered through the Far North Registered Apprenticeship Office.
  • Develops a vision and strategy for the Far North region on how to integrate apprenticeships into the CC system to achieve stated mission and goals.
  • Increases apprenticeship enrollment in college programs.
  • Represents the District in a variety of meetings in support of CAI Apprenticeship Programs development and activities; explores, coordinates, and implements expansion of apprenticeship opportunities with other Far North districts.
  • Meets with different agencies (e.g. IACA, CAC, DAS, DOL) related to apprenticeship and inform key stakeholders of important information.
  • Works with North/Far North Regional Directors to identify specific sectors for development of new apprenticeships across the region.
  • Actively explores and pursues opportunities for additional funding through various new grant applications and leveraging existing projects and funding sources.
  • Tracks apprenticeship participation with various industry partners and monitors apprentice outcomes upon completion of the apprenticeship period.
  • Interfaces with the Shasta College Career Center to connect with students and employers seeking apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Provides data, conducts research, manages special projects, creates schedules, and provides other relevant information pertaining to CAI Apprenticeship Programs development for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resolves issues effectively, provides accurate reports, and ensures program objectives and policies are properly implemented.
  • Monitors and controls expenditures in line with established program budgets; compiles, analyzes, prepares, and submits progress reports; and prepares and submits required state and institutional fiscal and accounting records.
  • Compiles, maintains, and reviews computerized files and records.
  • Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Knowledge of:
  • Principles, procedures, objectives, and practices of apprenticeship programs.
  • Budget implementation and management procedures.

  • Effective analytic, interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Experience/Education
Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent education.
Experience Required:
  • Two years related work experience.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity toward and effective cooperation with diverse stakeholder communities.

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 6 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
