Location: Education Center at Walker Square; in-person position
Hours: Hours for this position: part-time (approximately 19 hours per week) and is year-round (52 weeks a year). Must be able to be available for flexible work hours as needed.
Note: This is a specially IET grant funded position beginning after July 1, 2023. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant and is currently funded through June 30th, 2024.
Integrated Education and Training (IET) Career Pathway programs are designed to meet the needs of underprepared students, Adult High School (AHS), GED/HSED students, and non-native English speakers who may have a broad education and experience in their native country but need to develop their English communication skills, earn industry-relevant credentials, and/or apply their skills and knowledge within the context of the local workforce and community. Students take a GED/HSED/ELL course simultaneously with contextualized remediation courses which are aligned with their college courses to earn a Career Pathway credential.
Under the direction of the IET Community Education Coordinator, provides, advises, and guides prospective students through the admissions process. Conducts individual or group information enrollment and orientation sessions. Coordinates academic and tutorial individual or group (in-person in a classroom or learning lab or virtually). Supports retention, access, and matriculation for MATC's occupational, technical, and academic programs.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Offers informational IET program sessions to new and continuing GED/HSED/ELL students at MATC locations and CBOs (Community Based Organizations) as needed.
- Performs student intake and assessment to prospective IET students
- Offers students orientation and course placement ensuring to meet the enrollment goals for the IET program.
- Makes referrals for support services to other MATC Departments or community agencies to assist students in overcoming barriers to attendance such as childcare, transportation, housing, etc.
- Provides individual student case management to support academic progress: student goal setting, barrier removal, and transition.
- Provides individual student placement and registration as well as academic service referrals to support course completion and credential attainment.
- With the participation of the student in the process, develops a Personalized Education and Career Transition Plan with specific, measurable objectives and action steps for each student. Document progress and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintains records and prepare reports as required including monitoring student attendance and student contact.
- Maintains accurate data and relevant electronic and paper student records ensuring quality and completeness of data entered.
- Coordinates with instructors to ensure students are post-tested.
- Helps and tracks students transition from GED/HSED/ESL, IET classes to post-secondary programs.
- Conduct sdata collection and entry into the Online Client Report System
- Assists the IET Coordinator in the preparation of IET monthly/quarterly narrative and statistical reports.
- Advises ATB and IET students on enrollment and program requirements; assists students with applications, admissions and program registration as well as refer them to the financial aid department as needed.
- Makes TABE test tickets, and administers, and proctors the TABE test to prospective and current IET students as needed.
- Participates in job fairs and special events for purpose of program promotion with local and community organizations.
- Participates in the MATC Open House and Casa Abierta recruitment events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Compliance with all state, federal and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Minimum Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with at least three (3) years of relevant work experience
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Master's degree and at least five (5) or more years of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of and experience with the goals and practices of Community Based Education.
- Knowledge of the student enrollment process.
- Knowledge and ability to provide case management services.
- Knowledge of and experience working with minority students from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to utilize databases, student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word and the initiative to apply queries and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, employees, outside governmental and community agencies, and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
- Ability to schedule work assignments to meet departmental needs and to maintain related records.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to think critically and apply problem resolution.
- Ability to work with in a caring and compassionate manner with adult learners.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and the ability pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.
