The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is seeking candidates who align with the colleges' mission, vision, and passion to serve, and who demonstrate commitment to promoting a climate of equity, diversity, and inclusion, including an understanding and demonstration of cultural humility.

As the AANAPISI Grant Manager you will be responsible for being a key member of the team that is passionate about Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. In this role, you will lead the college effort to carry out the goals of a U.S. Department of Education "Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution" (AANAPISI) grant awarded to the college. This grant aims to build North Seattle College's capacity to serve its Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students more effectively. Major goals of the grants include: 1) Improve key academic outcome indicators for AAPI and low-income students, 2) Ensure that North Seattle College is a welcoming campus for AAPI and low-income students, and 3) Ensure that research informs service approaches, curriculum, and overall campus operations to more effectively serve AAPI students.

This position will have a multi-faceted reporting structure to a leadership team that includes the North Seattle College's Associate Vice President (VP) for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and Director of College Access Partnerships.

This is a grant funded position (October 1, 2021 - September 30, 2026).

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS.

What you will be working on:
  • Supervising the day-to-day work of individuals working on the AANAPISIS grant, such as, but not limited to, the AANAPISI Navigator, Graduate Student Intern, student hourly workers, and Faculty Mentors.
  • Utilizing research gathered from Ethnic Studies, AAPI student success, and a culturally sensitive lens to address the needs of AAPI students at the college.
  • Liaisoning with faculty to develop educational workshops relevant to the AAPI student experience.
  • Establishing and cultivating relationships with relevant campus partners and AAPI community organizations.
  • Collecting data on AAPI student success and assess effectiveness of grant-funded efforts, in collaboration with the Institutional Effectiveness Office, external evaluator, and the AANAPISI Steering Committee.
  • Working closely with the Institutional Effectiveness Office to ensure goals regarding disaggregated data (data looking at subgroups of AAPI students) are met.
  • Working with Director to ensure compliance with federal grant requirements.
  • Ensuring integration of AANAPISI grant program into other North Seattle College campus and Seattle Colleges District efforts.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Master's degree in student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Ethnic Studies (with an emphasis on Asian American or Pacific Islander studies), or any related field.
  • Advising, counseling and/or coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with facilitation for educational workshops.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) student experience and how to address needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of uses and barriers facing first generation and low-income college students.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
