The Shoreline Community College Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises money through donations which fund a variety of merit and need-based scholarships for students at Shoreline Community College. The Foundation hosts three major events every year to raise funds for student and faculty scholarships, including the Annual Student Success Fundraiser, Scholarship Awards Ceremony, and the Seattle International Film Festival. The Foundation's work supports scholarships for students with financial needs and helps students with financial emergencies stay in school. As a member of the President's Executive Team, the Executive Director of Advancement & Foundation leads and directs the Shoreline Community College Foundation Office and Advancement activities, providing planning, organizational, and administrative oversight in alignment with the College goals and mission. This position provides leadership and support to the College from a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion perspective resulting in increased philanthropic resources for programs, facilities, scholarships, and special projects which benefit students, faculty and the College.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Serves as the administrative lead for College capital campaigns, ensuring funding goals are met within State deadlines.
  • Builds, implements, and maintains an inclusive development plan from a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lens focused on increasing College representation in the community in alignment with College goals.
  • Develops and maintains an internal/external culture of philanthropy with the College.
  • Builds and maintains relationships for the College and Foundation throughout the region with both system (SBCTC and associated colleges) and non-system partners.
  • Builds a strategic Foundation Board of Directors representative of the service area, ensuring leadership, planning, orientation and support are provided.
  • Provides insight and perspective to the President and Executive Team members regarding the College's philanthropy, non-profit Foundations, and Alumni program.
  • Works collaboratively with the President, Foundation Board, Board of Trustees, Executive Team, and other members of the College community.
  • Achieves annual fundraising goals and long-range financial support through individual, corporate, governmental and Foundation relationships, partnerships, and gifts.
  • Provides leadership to the College campus for effective community engagement strategies including advisory boards, events, promotions.
  • Administers the Foundation and Capital Campaign budgets, ensuring the accurate completion of required financial statements, fiscal reporting, and an annual audit, including determination of staffing and operational requirements; approves and monitors contributions and expenditures.
  • Directs/supervises senior staff; recruits, trains, coaches and evaluates to assure performance; and builds an effective team that is responsive to the needs of the College and the Foundation.
  • Ensures the maintenance of comprehensive scholarship tracking records and analysis of results; and manages endowments, named scholarships, and fund and investment accounts.
  • Ensures timely and accurate Foundation Board meeting minutes and reports are maintained.
  • Monitors and reports on grant funds received ensuring requirements are met for distribution.
  • Complies with State and federal annual reporting and registration requirements for licensing and certifications, including but not limited to the State of WA Non-Profit Corporation Annual Report, the State of WA Business License, the City of Shoreline Annual Business License, the State of WA Charities Report, the State of WA Charitable Trusts Report, and IRS 990.
  • Exercises a high level of discretion with internal/external interactions and maintains strict confidentialities.
  • Administers and interprets College policies and procedures; and resolves issues resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
  • Represents the Foundation within the College, in the community, and in professional organizations.
  • Keeps current with laws, regulations and technology that may affect non-profit organizations, and implements policy and procedural changes as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned of similar level/nature.


Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience with fundraising that includes major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, special events, and prospect research.
  • Experience working with a non-profit Board of Directors.
  • Experience building partnerships and external community relations.


KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Microsoft Office 365 including Excel, Outlook, and Word applications
  • Donor management software (such as Raiser's Edge NXT)
  • Non-profit accounting software (such as Financial Edge NXT)
  • Leadership/managerial principles, including the principles of effective supervision
  • Budgeting best practices/fiscal management across multiple funding sources
  • Applicable laws, rules, ordinances, regulations and ethics including, but not limited to, RCW chapter 11.110, RCW chapter 19.09, RCW chapter 24.03, RCW chapter 24.44, IRS Form 990

SKILL IN:
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.
  • Providing leadership, motivating staff and colleagues, supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Entrepreneurship, development and execution which increases the breadth and scope of donor/constituency bases, meeting private sector and non-traditional fundraising goals.

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). Administrators are assigned to work on campus, noting there may be some opportunities to work remotely based on program or area needs. If authorized for limited remote work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. When working on-campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. This position also works weekends and evenings when appropriate or needed is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:

This is a full-time administrative/exempt annually contracted position with initial salary placement determined by the College dependent upon education/experience. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
