Summary:

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture invites candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations. This is a unique opportunity for development professionals to bring their vision and leadership to a school of art and architecture.
The Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations, reporting to both the Dean and the Assistant Vice President for Development - Schools & Colleges, will create, manage, and execute strategies to increase philanthropic investment at Tyler. The individual will work closely with Institutional Advancement central operations in aligning unit-based priorities with those of institutional leadership. The Assistant Dean will serve on the Dean's administrative leadership team and will create and implement strategies designed to support the funding of the dean's priorities. In collaboration with the Dean and the Assistant Vice President, the Assistant Dean will manage the Board of Visitors, consisting of the School's top prospects and donors.

We see this as a highly impactful, hands-on position that requires an essential understanding of Tyler's history and future, and the collaborative and communication skills to work effectively across disciplines with constituencies within and beyond the school. The successful candidate will be highly energetic, driven, organized, intellectually curious and enthusiastic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and facilitating meaningful gifting opportunities and partnerships. This individual will work collaboratively and strategically, demonstrate good judgement and professionalism, and evidence a strong knowledge and use of principles, ethics, and best practices of successful fundraising. The Assistant Dean will manage a portfolio of prospects with a capacity of $50,000 and greater to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to the School. This Assistant Dean will provide also oversight and strategic leadership to the Tyler development staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and at least seven years of fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing six to seven-figure gifts. Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel and Access.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and work in an environment including diverse groups of faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and students.
  • Must be a highly energetic, organized, and enthusiastic professional with a track record of building donor relationships.
  • Ability to take initiative to work collaboratively and strategically, with a strong knowledge of successful fundraising principles, ethics, and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents inside and outside the university.
  • Knowledge of planned giving techniques and programs available to implement such gifts.
  • Entrepreneurial skills in identifying donors, cultivating meaningful relationships, and constructing creative gifting opportunities and agreements.
  • Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn.
  • Ability to make policy decisions when necessary, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to changes, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and work with budgetary procedures and policies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours. Must exhibit a strong intellectual curiosity and proficiency in active listening.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a positive thinker and strong team leader and player.

Preferred:

Master's degree.
Higher education fundraising experience.
Experience in art or architecture.

This position requires a background check.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote) after completing a 6-month probationary period; the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
