Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director of Donor Relations is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive program for managing donor-named funds at Furman University. As a key member of the Donor Relations team, the Assistant Director will assist in various operations of the office that acknowledge and recognize donors, inspiring repeat and increased giving.

Job Duties:

Develops and maintains a current and comprehensive directory of endowed and non-endowed named funds at Furman University, including student scholarships, professorships, lectureships, program and departmental funds, awards, facilities, and others.

Creates a comprehensive process and schedule to produce compelling impact and activity reports for named fund donors. Collects and produces customized content for reports through communication with faculty, staff, and students that are involved with or the beneficiaries of a named fund. Compiles financial and statistical data as provided by Financial Services.

Regularly audits spending activity of named funds. Identifies funds with no or low spending and works with campus partners to implement solutions.

Ensures that named funds at Furman University are being utilized according to donor intent, as well as state and federal law. Works in conjunction with Financial Services, the Director of Donor Relations, appropriate campus offices and the Donor to modernize fund criteria and spending instructions for funds that no longer align with current Furman programs or are otherwise out of date.

Prepares legal fund agreements for newly created named funds and amendments to existing funds. Tracks the progress of all fund agreement documents from creation to completion, including dissemination to appropriate campus partners, and works with Development Officers and Donors directly.

Communicates directly with Donors to answer questions and provide information regarding the activity of any named fund. Conducts research and produces historical summaries upon request from a Donor or colleague.

Serves as a liaison across campus, specifically working closely with Financial Services, Financial Aid, Legal Counsel, Academic Departments, Athletics, and various program offices.

Oversees the accounting of funds in the Partners Program, including but not limited to tracking donor gifts, calculating and applying matching funds, and verifying recipient awards.

In partnership with the Director of Donor Relations, assists with the planning and execution of events for Donors and fund beneficiaries, including but not limited to annual Partners Program events, scholarship functions, agreement signing ceremonies, and named space dedications.

Coordinates annual thank-you note writing campaign for student scholars and fund beneficiaries.

Produces timely and accurate gift acknowledgment letters for donors.

Pursues professional development opportunities to keep pace with demands for donor services.

Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and University goals.

Tasks involve complex procedures with interrelated processes and steps.

Reports To: Director of Donor Relations

Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.

Education/Skill Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience.

Ability to communicate effectively with others through written and verbal contact.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects.

Must maintain confidential information and data.

Experience in MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Publisher (or other design software) required.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed under usual office conditions. Work requires handling multiple tasks and deadlines.

May require occasional evening and weekend work attending donor recognition events.
