Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Associate Vice President for Government and Community Relations serves as a strategic leader in building support for the institution's priorities with City, County, State and Federal governments as well as with neighboring communities. The incumbent plans, develops, and directs all aspects of the university' government relations operations to build relationships, secure local, state, and federal funding and to advocate for legislature that drives student success.
  • Provides guidance to CSUN leadership in navigating complex issues dealing with elected officials and community members / groups and builds networks of campus support through creative, resourceful and deliberate approaches.
  • Empowers employees by being communicative and a talent builder that develops team attributes, furthering departmental goals and ensures that all work and initiatives are rooted with equity, inclusion and justice.
  • As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university's vision, values and priorities. Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team. Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in a job related field.
  • Equivalent to six years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience required; with three of the six years in a managerial role.

  • Demonstrated leader with a record of achieving results individually and collaboratively with others and demonstrated ability to build trust and engagement with diverse populations of community members, students, faculty and staff.
  • Understanding of political process (local, state and federal) and understanding of the relationship of public higher education in California to both the state and federal funding process.
  • Ability to work with multiple constituencies and demonstrate diplomacy and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver a clear and compelling message.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.



Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $160,000 - $180,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • The position is currently hybrid ( 2 days in office, 3 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
