Job Summary: Design and implement programs in middle schools to increase college-going rates for middle school students and their families. Develop curricula that are exciting, transformational, and responsive to community contexts and needs. Cultivate college-going cultures within the communities of middle school students. Provide deeply engaged learning opportunities for students to gain and increase college readiness while realizing their potential as college-bound community leaders. Bring families into the center of community-college transformation, raising college awareness and the life-long benefits of pursuing college pathways leading to careers. Advise program participants and their families on post-secondary education and career opportunities. Supervise program specialists and volunteers. Conduct workshops and program activities. Serve as a chaperone on on-campus visits and field trips. Coordinator will serve Middle School students in the Salt Lake County School Districts. Some evening and weekend activities will be required. A requirement of this position is to travel to multiple sites and work with minimal supervision.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Prepare and deliver programming in middle schools.
  • Recruit, train and supervise support staff and program volunteers.
  • Provide information and advice for student participants and families.
  • Plan campus visits and field trips.
  • Identify, recruit, and select project participants.
  • Determine eligibility for services.
  • Assess students needs for services and interests.
  • Develop and maintain communications with parents and school personnel regarding participants needs and problems.
  • Communicate and coordinate with college departments, school and district personnel, and community organizations.
  • Assist with reports, data collection, and program evaluation.
  • Develop new activities and services to recruit and meet project needs.
  • Assist with the promotion, collaboration, public relations of the program.
  • Maintain student files and documentation of eligibility and services.
  • Track and document participants academic progress.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree required, with emphasis in education, psychology, sociology, communication, social work, or related field.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of full-time direct experience working in educational settings, and/or community advocacy organizations.
  • Part-time related work experience may be substituted for full-time experience on a pro-rated basis.
  • Reliable transportation and/or valid drivers license is required to travel to multiple schools and program activity sites.
  • Must also pass appropriate school districts background checks and be approved to drive program participants to activities.


Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.Masters degree with emphasis in education, community engagement, or social work (completed or in progress).Knowledge of college policies and procedures in Salt Lake County School Districts.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Assist needs of students from economically and educationally under resourced communities. Plan and lead youth programs with historically marginalized communities. Perform effective forms of advising for students and their families. Provide needs assessment and/or asset mapping (with individuals, communities, schools, families, etc.). Work collaboratively with a variety of school administrations, college and community personnel. Excellent communication with various populations and across cultures. Maintain multiple projects and timelines, as well as work a flexible schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Supervise specialists and/or volunteers. Computer operation, data systems, social media knowledge and skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Banner, StudentAccess, Facebook preferred), and presentation media including laptops and LCD projectors. Work independently at different sites and manage multiple projects. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
