Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco School of Law is hiring a Director, Alumni and Donor Relations to work with faculty, staff and volunteers to implement annual and long-term alumni engagement and development strategies with a loyal and influential alumni community.

Established in 1912, the USF School of Law (SOL) builds upon its strong Jesuit values of service to and respect for others to create an inclusive community characterized by personal attention, passionate teachers, and community engagement. With a focus on experiential lawyering, social justice and having a positive impact, the SOL plays an important role in the community as an intellectual center, a provider of legal services, and a producer of ethical and excellent alumni. Many USF alumni serve in the judiciary or hold other prominent positions in the public and private sectors.

The Director of Alumni and Donor Relations develops, manages, and implements the strategy and programming for USF School of Law's alumni engagement and donor relations. The Director fosters and maintains alumni connections, which in part result in employment opportunities for recent alumni and mid-level donor gifts of $1,000-$5,000+.

The Director of Alumni and Donor Relations reports directly to the Senior Director and manages the Development and Alumni Engagement Events Assistant, as well as student assistants. The Director manages a portfolio comprised of the Board of Governors and key alumni contacts.

Job Responsibilities

The Director of Alumni and Donor Relations
  • Oversees alumni and donor relations and Board of Governors volunteer alumni board.
  • Manages a portfolio of Board of Governors prospects and Alumni with capacity to give $1,000-$5,000+ annually and potential to provide consistent employment and mentorship opportunities for recent SOL graduates.
  • Designs a comprehensive alumni engagement plan that keeps alumni engaged throughout their careers.
  • Oversees the strategy, planning and execution of signature events, including the Alum Grad Reception, Holiday Mixer, class reunions, and swearing-in ceremony.
  • Serves as point person for Board of Governors, helping them to execute on their strategy and coordinating their quarterly meetings.
  • Facilitates alumni mentor program and alumni employment support.
  • Meets one on one with alumni to build rapport and qualify them for engagement with the Law School.
  • Manages donor stewardship in partnership with the university development team, with a key focus on specialized stewardship plans for SOL principal and major giving donors.
  • Works closely with student assistants to ensure historical alumni engagement and employer data integrity.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Director, manages the process for awarding and reporting on a number of alumni-funded student scholarships.
  • Develops and enhances cross department alumni volunteer efforts across the School of Law
  • Manages the budget for Alumni relations.


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.

At least 5-7 years of related experience, preferably at an institution of higher education.

Strong knowledge of alumni engagement and stewardship strategies.

Ability to engage and solicit alumni, resulting in donations and job placements.

Demonstrated ability to lead and support volunteers, team members, and student assistants.

Significant experience and success in providing service to and building trusted relationships.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team setting.

Proven ability to manage large scale projects from inception to completion.

Strong ability in networking practices.

Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communications skills and solid project management skills.

Proven analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills. Strong detail orientation.

Strong skills in relationship building, events, marketing, and communication.

Experience with or the ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff. Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity and be able to work inclusively with individuals from different backgrounds.
