About the Department
External Relations raises funds and develops partnerships to support faculty, students and programs, and builds relationships that advance the mission of UC Merced with government, community, business, industry and opinion leaders, through strategic communications, public outreach and visibility strategies. External Relations supports the work of the UC Merced Foundation, a volunteer fundraising board that helps promote and increase private philanthropic support, advocates for the university and manages a portion of the university's endowment.
The division comprises several departments: Alumni Relations, Arts, Government and Community Relations, Marketing, Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships, Protocol and Special Events, and Public Relations.
About the Job
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced, fundraising professional. Plans, schedules, and implements moderate-sized, comprehensive fundraising and alumni relations projects and programs, including specific fundraising programs such as annual fund, alumni relations, research, etc. May coordinate and oversee the work of support staff and / or other professionals. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser specialization.
Key Responsibilities
Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum of five (5) years experience with emphasis on writing and communications is required.
Licenses: Maintain a valid US Driver's License
Knowledge & Skills
Background check and fingerprinting may be required.
