The Brookings Institution
Economic Studies
Director of Development, Foundation

The Brookings Institution conducts in-depth research that leads to new ideas for solving problems facing society at the local, national, and global level. Bringing together more than 300 leading experts in government and academia from all over the world and representing diverse perspectives, Brookings is one of the most influential, most quoted, and most trusted think tanks. Brookings research topics span public policy issues in economics, foreign policy, development, governance, and metropolitan policy.

The Brookings Economic Studies(ES)program, one of five Brookings research program areas, focuses on addressing obstacles to long-term economic growth and opportunity. Its experts analyze current and emerging economic issues facing the United States and the world. Based on that research, Brookings provides innovative, practical policy recommendations. This work has never been more important.

Brookings is seeking a seasoned and sophisticated Director of Development, Foundations, who will be a key member of the ES development team under the direction of the Senior Development Director. The Director's principal responsibilities focus on meeting with and identifying new foundation prospects, writing and communications, and overseeing all aspects of foundation fundraising.

An energetic visionary undaunted by complexity, the Director, in collaboration with the Senior Director, ES's scholars, projects, and centers, will lead efforts to identify and cultivate funding prospects, write grant proposals and reports, and steward relationships with existing and prospective funders. In addition, the Director will work closely with the Senior Director on program-wide development strategy and systems. The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, entrepreneurial, and highly collaborative. They must have demonstrated experience with writing grant proposals and funder reports, grant writing and management and familiarity with economics and domestic social policy. The ability to collaborate across the Institution, particularly with central development, to successfully build and grow ES's fundraising program to its greatest potential is fundamental.
