Position Type: Exempt Staff

Position Summary:
This position works closely with Executive Director of COM Foundation and Institutional Advancement to coordinate requests for funding from government and private sources. The person in this position becomes familiar with college priorities and researches external funding opportunities to meet those priorities through the preparation and submission of funding requests and grant proposals. The Grant Development Officer will increase the capacity of the college for developing, funding and managing sustainable grant programs by working with faculty and administration.

Job Duties:

Identify grant opportunities for the benefit of the college to enrich the educational environment, and to advance the mission, goals and annual priorities of the college.
Manage the grant planning and initiation process, and assist faculty and staff with moving the grant project to the cabinet for approval.
Meet with faculty and staff, and in collaboration with the principal investigator(s), develop, write and submit institutional grant proposals once approved by the President and Cabinet
Work closely with the Office of Planning, Effectiveness, Analytics/Assessment and Research to include compelling data to enhance grant proposals.
Enter into partnerships with educational, community, industry and economic development entities to increase the scope of grant proposals.
Develop and maintain relationships with local state and federal funding agencies, as well as corporate and private foundations.
Provide expertise and direction to others writing departmental and program grants to ensure accuracy, completeness and timely submission.
Facilitate meetings and workshops on proposal writing, funding sources and grants administration to faculty and staff and inform and facilitate a culture of grant development.
Work closely with the Grant Compliance Office, ensuring compliance with relevant policies of the college and its funders.
Communicate with administration and present information to the Board of Trustees about the grants received and pending on a regular basis.
Attend professional development conferences to remain up to date on new grant opportunities and changes in requests for proposals.



Minimum Education/Training/Experience:
Bachelors degree required. Three years of federal and state grant development work experience required, preferably in an educational institution. Evidence of a successful grant funding track record.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience:
Masters degree in related field preferred. Demonstrated skill in grant budget development.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
Experience comprehending and following grant application guidelines.
Proficiency in MS Office, Word, navigating the internet, and submitting grants via grants.gov. Demonstrated skill in planning, organizing, drafting, and editing written documents.
Demonstrated skill in scheduling, prioritizing, and finalizing activities to meet deadlines. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors etc.



Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of community colleges and their students needs.
