Job Summary

The Senior Director of Development for the College of Engineering is responsible for securing major gifts of $25,000+ with a focus on gifts above $100,000 including principal gifts at $1-million+ for the university with a specific focus on the College of Engineering as well as corporate partners across the University. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and will work directly with the college dean and faculty to provide strategic leadership to generate an increasing number and amount of major and principal gifts while assessing philanthropic giving priorities and matching them to potential prospects to benefit the college and university. The Senior Director of Development for the College of Engineering will serve as the primary development officer engaged in donor identification, prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and communication for gifts more than $100,000. As an integral part of the division of URD, the Senior Director of Development for the College of Engineering will work to foster lasting relationships between the university and its benefactors, promoting positive attitudes toward private support among current and prospective major, principal and planned gift donors.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts of $25,000+ with a focus on gifts above $100,000 including principal gifts at $1-million+ from individuals, corporations and foundations to support the College of Engineering and university.
Facilitate university-wide collaboration amongst corporate donors that support multiple colleges.
Provide direction to the units' assigned development staff.
Manage strategic volunteer development opportunities for major gift prospects.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the solicitation process in an educational environment. Proficient in identifying and building a pipeline of future donors. Ability to create major and principal gift philanthropic priorities with the College leadership and create development strategies for success. Excellent planning, organizing, and problem solving skills. Strong competency in oral and written communication. Effective supervisor in managing college's development office and its staff. Ability to work independently without close supervision. self direction in the initiation, coordination, and completion of tasks is essential.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 7 years of demonstrated successful major gift fundraising experience including donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation. Experience in higher education preferred. Valid California driver's license.
