OVERVIEW
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000. The area is characterized by excellent schools with high graduation rates, low traffic, and low housing prices (Zillow average $393,000 vs. California state average of $770,000).

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide academic, career, and personal counseling services to all students. This job class requires knowledge of counseling principles, methods, and techniques as well as the ability to effectively relate to a diverse student population. This position will assist in the development and implementation of counseling focused technology such as automated educational planning tools, online orientation, and web based registration systems. This position is responsible for performing and coordinating the day-to-day activities, operations, and services of outreach and recruitment including presentations to a variety of groups. This position is 195-days/year; work schedule to be agreed upon with the supervisor.

The Department of Innovation houses programs that are focused on helping adult learners return to or start at Shasta College. These programs recognize the complexities of adult learners' lives (e.g., work, parenting, care-taking for family members, etc) and value the life/work experiences adult learners bring to the college environment. ACE is the Accelerated College Education program, a certificate/associate degree completion program designed to fit adult learners lives. BOLD is Bachelor's through Online and Local Degrees, a program to help adult learners select, access, and succeed in online bachelor's degree completion programs. ACE and BOLD are established programs at the college. CBE is Competency Based Education and is currently in development. CBE offers instruction that incorporates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and college-level learning that students already possess, allows a student to move through their learning at their own pace, and requires a student to demonstrate mastery of all learning content. Shasta College will be launching our initial CBE pathway in Early Childhood Education in Spring 2025, quickly followed by CBE pathways in Health Information Technology and Health Information Management.

CLASSIFICATION:
Placement on the current Faculty Salary Schedule is commensurate with previous education and experience.

Full-time counselors are contracted to work 195 days per year, July 1 through June 30.
This position is Non-Instructional faculty.
Starting Salary: $68,497.23-$112,301.34/year on the 2023-2024 Non-Instructional 195 Day Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule
Salary Range: $68,497.23-$145,390.29/year on the 2023-2024 Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule
$2,000/year doctorate differential
State Teachers Retirement System (STRS)

START DATE: This position is anticipated to start on or around July 1, 2024.

SUPERVISOR: Dean of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives or designee

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Typical duties:

Assist in developing programs and services that will attract and retain a diverse student population.
Provide general orientation and group advising to students on campus and at outreach sites via courses, workshops, interactive teleconferencing, email and/or other technological means.
Utilize current technology to provide and document counseling services.
Assist students in clarifying academic/career goals and developing educational plans.
Assist with testing and interpretation of assessment results.
Assist in the development and maintenance of print materials and events posted on the College website.
Serve as Shasta College's outreach representative and liaison between campus departments and other educational institutions.
Collect, analyze and evaluate data and prepare reports on the effectiveness of outreach programs.
Schedule, train and supervise student workers (e.g. tour guides and student ambassadors.)
Serve as a consultant to faculty regarding student performance and retention.
Teach courses and develop curriculum in Career Exploration and College Success.
Develop and participate in specialized programs.
Maintain fiscal records.
Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, feeder schools and relevant community based organizations.
Serve on committees related to student success, curriculum, scholastic standards and participatory governance.
Maintain currency with transfer and other issues in the field through Professional Development programs and activities, including development and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes.
Participate in campus life (i.e., clubs, athletics, and student/ campus activities).
Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned.

Ability to:

Understand and work within the mission and philosophy of the California Community College system.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with faculty, staff, and community contacts.
Communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through the electronic medium. Knowledge of a range of computer software applications.
Exercise independence and initiative, with general supervision; effectively plan, organize and maintain a schedule of activities.
Assimilate a large volume of changing academic and career information.

Experience/Education

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
OR the equivalent
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
